Shimokitazawa is located few minutes away from Shibuya/Shinjuku station by riding Inogashira Line/Odakyu Line.
My impression about Shimokitazawa is there are a lot of unique stores gathered, and it is Tokyo but has individual atmosphere. As it maybe because I grew up abroad, perhaps others will answered differently. At night, it is the place for music lovers. There are a lot of music bars, maybe you can see people walking holding guitar on their shoulder. At daytime, the atmosphere is different! There are a lot of small unique shops, such as general shops and second-hand clothes shops, and cafes. I assume you will find the unique items at here!
From now, I want to introduce some shops I suggest you should go!
After you exit south exit, lets go to shopping street and get a Shimokitazawa like trend snicker!
In the south exit, there is many restaurants, cafes, and few shoes shops are gathered.
I was thinking of introducing the limited snickers and collaboration items in Japan, but unfortunately I couldn`t able to find it in this moment. There are collaboration items like with sport brands with the shoes stores , such as Asbees×converse and etc. Seem they release limited items suddenly in certain seasons, even the shop master can`t tell when! However, I found out there is rare new balance 990 in this shops, if its not sold out you should check this out! It is popular for snicker lovers.

”Koukishin no mori Darwin Room” (General Store)
”Koukishin no mori Darwin Room” is the place gathered with unique goods, stationaries, and old books related to natural science. It is perfect for people who loves nature arts. The cute wooden building is the image of the house in countryside of England, that Charles Darwin has lived. If you go thru the entrance door, you feel like you are touching the natures with unique animal sculptures.

Nikkun Roll Shimokitazawa
If you are meat lovers you need to try this, Nikkun Roll. It is a rice ball wrapped with meat! The meat broth and sweet sauce that soak into the rice is extremely awesome! Feels like want to try all the flavors if I think about it! Well, here is the different flavors you can try!

Toyo Garage Department Store (General Store)
Tokyo department store is the place that have few original and handmade shops are gathered in one facility.
When you enter, you can see hat store, few accessories and clothes stores. There are about 20 shops, and each shops sells unique items. They sells cute accessories too, I feel it is nice to visit if you like buying accessories!
If you go furthermore, there is one original carving jewely shop named,”IBUQUI.” I quite like this store that they sell unique accessories that you can`t able to find in other places!

The store have an image of flea market in Europe, with a cute exterior. The customers can find the second-handed antique clothes. Shimokitazawa outlet has an eye catching orange big signboard, and it is easier to find.
If you entered, you feel like you are time slip to a retro and peace atmosphere. There are both ladies and men clothes, from basic second-hand clothes to original import clothes, and mainly around the ages of 50th~90ths. The store atmosphere that fulfilled of high quality second hand items that buyer selected are attract you that might forget the time. Other than the clothes, hats, shoes, accessories, furniture, bicycle, and housewares are available here, it is a total life style shop. "

First, I will show you the coordinated style for men. The first one on the left is awesome! It is coordinate with pants, denim and military jacket with shoes. The denim jacket matches the military jacket, it is not weird at all!

It is a famous crepe store in Shimokitazawa. A lot of media have been broadcast this shop. There are varieties of tastes the customers can choose from the menus. The one of the crepe I was attractived is “Natto Coffee Jelly Fresh Whipped Cream Crepe.” I feel that I can`t able to find this flavor anywhere unless I come to this shop! Actually, this is one of the popular crepe. Are you not thinking like”Ah! Combination with natto and coffee jelly? That is discusting!”, right now? If I doubt it, you need to try this combination. It is really matches with the bitter coffee jelly and rich fresh whipped cream!! You must try this taste!

Dinner: Magic Spice ~Soup Curry that can select 5 stages of spice~
Magic Spice is the first established restaurant of soup curry. As you see the exterior of this restaurant, it is very unique, and if you enter the entrance you can experience the mysterious atmosphere. Soup curry was established in Hokkaido, Japan. In Hokkaido, there are few soup curry stores that you can enjoy! If you heard soup curry for first time, maybe you can`t imagine what is it like. Moreover, if you ask, ”What is soup curry?”, I only can say is soup but curry, and it is hard to explain. I feel that only the person who tried this can understand the taste! At this restaurant, there are 10 different flavors of soup curry, and you can add the spice from 7 different stages.

It is very unique naming that we can understand the playfulness of the owner. Other than the spice, you can create your original taste and curry by adding 30 different toppings you can choose it from.
I have tried a chicken curry with nirvana. The curry has full of veggies and there is one big chicken that you can satisfied your stomatch! The soup wasn`t heavy, it was light like as regular soup. Moreover, the spice wasn`t that spicy as expected! I asked “what stage do most customers have?”and manager answered, “first or second stage.” Seem that most people are quite scared to challenge the higher level, but I think you can try the level I tried it!
Not only just to dine here, the staff always want the customers to satisfied that they want them to feel this place is enjoyable and fun place to visit. Definately, you will enjoy this unique atmosphere, and I feel all the stress from work will go away. If you meet owner, there is speacial menu named,”Kimagure Curry”, it only appears when the owner comes to the restaurant! If you meet him, please try this menu too!!!

Village Vanguard is the book store that have a concept of “The book store can play.”
