Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony
”TOKYO GRAND TEA CEREMONY” is the event where can feel and experience Japanese traditional culture through tea ceremony. They hold every year at 2 places in different day and time. “EDO TOKYO TATEMONOEN” is a place where can see 30 high cultural values historical buildings from the Edo period to the middle Showa period, and also can feel and touch the history and culture of Japan. “Hamarikyu Garden” is known as one of a representative garden from Edo era and certified as a special historic site. It is a atmosphere where you can catch a breath and see a value of art in Tokyo!
The purpose of doing this event is because they want widely disseminate Japanese traditional culture and entertainment both in domestic and overseas. It is the event that everyone can participate easily, and also perfect for those who are not familiar with tea ceremony, for foreigners who have English barrier, and kids. Some of their programs carries out an interpretation in English, so you can learn and enjoy the Japanese traditional art and culture even though you do not understand Japanese!

The programs is divided into few sections. Not all same programs will be held in both places, so please check the programs and time schedules. Every schedule have limit maximum capacity, so please kindly understand if it is full, you can not participate, and it will be the next round.

※Only for “Chaseki (indoor tea ceremony held only in Japanese: 700 yen)” held in both places is required to apply from online application, postcard or by phone till the deadline.

For those who are already familiar with Japanese tea ceremony and want to learn more professionally, however, you are worry about language barrier, you may can participate “WELCOME! Enjoy tea in English(700 yen).” It is same as “Chaseki (in Japanese), and this tea ceremony have English explanation. For indoor, they will only held in EDO TOKYO TATEMONOEN. There is also “WELCOME! Enjoy tea in English(300 yen)” outdoor tea ceremony (Nodate). This will be held only in Hamarikyu Garden. The outdoor tea ceremony is less fine manners to be emphasized, so you may can consider which one to participate!
Besides these programs, for foreigners, ”Experience the tea ceremony for the first time!” is recommend for those who are beginners and touch the tea ceremony for the first time. The kids can also participate and can learn how to make matcha and a heart of hospitality. There is interpretation in English.
Everyone can participate this event! Please participate if you love matcha or like the traditional culture of Japan, and remember it as a memorial of the trip!
