Nihonbashi
The first time a bridge was built on this spot, was in 1603. Since that time, there was heavy traffic and it was treated as the starting point of the main roads that connect all over Japan.
Even now it is the starting point of the national roads, and on the ground of the bridge, there is a monument indicating it. At first, it was an arch-shaped bridge made of wood.
However in 1911, it was rebuilt into a granite-made bridge, which still exists. On the bridge there are statues of the mythical creatures, Shishi (lion) and Qilin. Also, there is a carved relief of the handwritten autograph of Tokugawa Yoshinobu, who is the last shogun of the Edo shogunate. It can be said that, it is a location where the long history of Tokyo city has been engraved.
