Nezu Museum
Nezu Museum preserves and exhibits the fine art collections of Japan and Eastern Asia gathered by Nezu Kaichiro.
He was an entrepreneur and a president of Tobu Railway, who was an enthusiastic fine art collector. In 1940, Nezu Kaichiro inherited the will of Kaichiro.
The tea house and exhibition halls were burnt down in 1945 by the war; the museum was rebuild in 1954, followed by an extension and renovation to mark the 50th anniversary in 1991. Nezu Museum holds various fine arts from the Eastern Asia as well as from Japan.
Furthermore, the love of tea ceremony by the Kaichiro resulted to a preservation of many tea ceremony items along with the traditional tea house located within the garden. It is highly recommended to step out from the exhibition hall and take a walk in the garden when visiting the museum. The visitors will be surprised by the garden filled with plants, as if being pulled away from the centre of the metropolitan city.
Enjoy the seasonal changes in the garden, as well as tasty treat of light meals, Macha (green tea), and sweets set at Nezu Cafe.
