Aoyama Cemetery
Aoyama Cemetery is located in Minami-Aoyama in Minato-ku. Is the largest cemetery in Tokyo’s 23 ward-districts.
The history of the cemetery dates back to 1874, and it is now famous for where many noble people with greatest achievements such as Toshimichi Okubo and Shigeru Yoshida rest in peace.
It is also famous for the shrine of the faithful dog, Hachiko, which is placed next to its master’s headstone Hidesaburo Ueno, who was a professor at Tokyo University. The visitors are able to locate the notable people’s headstone, many people who love histories visit the grave to send out prayers the deceased.
The purpose of the visits to the cemetery is not limited to the graves.
The visitors will enjoy a magnificent scene of cherry blossoms in spring, which have been lining the avenue in the cemetery for over 50 years. Many seasonal flowers are planted throughout the cemetery, it provides a relaxing feeling to people who are paying a visit to their deceased loved ones.
