Zohshigaya KishimoJinDoh shrine
Kishimo-Jin-Doh is a shrine which enshrines Kishimo-Jin in Zoshigaya. Kishimo-Jin attracts many people as a deity of safe birth and child rearing.
The Kishimo-Jin statue that is now enshrined was excavated in 1561 (in Muromachi period), purified at a well, which is in the temple’s garden , and it was brought into Hou-Myou temple.
As the popularity increased and more people began worshipping the deity, a shrine was built for it to be treasured. The current shrine is a reconstruction of the original structure in Edo period.
Kishimo-Jin-Doh statue is designated as Tokyo’s Tangible Cultural Property. Within a leafy temple garden, there is a 700 year-old great ginko tree, and in an area called Inari-no-Mori, there are Takeyoshi-Inari-Doh, stone statues and the oldest dagashi-ya sweet shop in Tokyo called Kawaguchi-Ya.
There are many historical architectures and artifacts that are worth visiting.
From a story that Kishimo-Jin had 1,000 children and people worship her to have many children. Therefore, there are regular festival events held on every Sunday and the good days of the month (8th, 18th and 28th of each month) where Daikoku-Doh sells their famous Osen-Dango.
