Ikebukuro West Gate Park
Ikebukuro West Gate Park is built on the site of Toshima Normal School (a teacher’s college), founded in 1908.
Since then, it has been refurbished as a front garden of Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre (Tokyo Geijyutu Gekijo), which was founded in 1990, for its close proximity to the facility. The park is full of sculptures and artistic objects, which are contributing to the artistic sense of the park.
The park is located in the East exit of JR Ikebukuro station. A lot of people use this park for waiting and meeting, and just only for relax. Within a large open space, there is a water fountain in the middle surrounded by a stage. There are flea markets, used book stalls, and concerts take place here regularly. It is always busy with many visitors making it one of the most active park in Ikebukuro.
The name has become popular around Japan, and to the world since Ikebukuro West Gate Park was shown on TV. From then, many people are visiting the park to see the location where the film took place.
