Rikugien Park
Rikugien Park is a large Japanese Garden in Komagome. It was designated as Japan’s Place of Special Scenic Beauty. The construction took place between 1695 to 1702, the designer Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu, who was a vassal of the fifth Edo Shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi.
In this Kaiyu-Shiki Tsuki Yama Sen Sui Teien (Strolling Pond Garden), there are artificially constructed pond and mound that allow visitors to enjoy seasonal sceneries. These sceneries are projected from the scenaries of Wakanoura in Kishu region that were often written in Japanese wake poem in Manyo-shu collection, Kokonwaka-shu collection, and sceneries from Chinese traditional stories.
The large park has many highlights for the visitors to enjoy. Every year, around end of March during cherry blossom season, visitors can able to see a magnificent Shidare zakura(weeping cherry tree). On autumn can able to see autumn leaves from end of November.
If visitors are tired of walking, there is place can enjoy Japanese sweets, such as matcha green tea, Japanese wagashi, and Amazake (sweet sake) at Fukiage chaya teahouse.
