Let’s use Free Wi-Fi!
11/04/2016
Being able to use a free Wi-Fi spot is preferable. However, since each facility and store provides its own Wi-Fi, it is bothersome to register many times over. So, today I would like to introduce free Wi-Fi services, which you can use at several places with one-time registration.
By App! “Japan Connected-free Wi-Fi”
“Japan Connected-free Wi-Fi” is an application which you just download, register for usage and can easily access various Wi-Fi spots. If you use this application, you will be able to use Wi-Fi everywhere in the city. For example, at convenient stores, commercial facilities and stations. Places available will surely continue to increase.
Firstly, register name/ gender/ age with a SNS account or e-mail address.
After registration, start up the application again and you will be able to use it.
Wi-Fi spots will be indicated on the map, so head to the spot, tap “connect,” and then you will be able to use Wi-Fi.
How easy!
Supported languages: English, Chinese (simplified/ traditional), Korean, Thai, Malay, Indonesian, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Russian, Japanese

By Phone! “FREE Wi-Fi PASSPORT”
It is a service limited to foreign tourists visiting Japan. With this service, you will be able to use Softbank’s Wi-Fi spots for free, for a limited two weeks after signing up. Registration and use is easy, but the set-up is quite bothersome (for some people it may be difficult) so it is highly recommended to check the process introduced on the official website beforehand.
At the time of registration, a country identification number and telephone number is required so please also check them.
In order to use it…
Firstly from an international roaming-possible terminal, set “Softbank” to the telecommunications carrier.
Next, dial the specified number and receive a password.
English *8180
Chinese *8181
Korean *8182
Then, turn the terminal’s Wi-Fi to ON and choose “.FREE_Wi-Fi_PASSPORT.”
After it changes to the setting screen, enter country code, telephone number, the earlier received password, gender, and age. When registration is completed, you will be able to use free Wi-Fi for two weeks!
Supported languages: English, Chinese (simplified/ traditional), Korean

For those who do not need to use Wi-Fi while going out, using it at each place you stop by (for example the station, convenient store or café) may be enough. So please figure out your best method, according to your frequency of use.
