Omoide Yokocho (Also known as Piss Alley)
Omoide Yokocho (Omoide Alleyway also known as Piss Alley) in Shinjuku has a long history dating back to the end of war, just like Golden Gai.
Omoide Yokocho has more Yakitori (charcoal grilled chicken) Bars and Motsu-Yaki (charcoal grilled giblets) Bars than Golden Gai. The bars are more approachable than in Golden Gai as they are targeted towards common people, where many customers dine alone.
Most bars are divided by one sheet of wooden panel, and the crammed design remain faithful to the original construction. Voices of masters and customers spread throughout the neighbourhood, retaining lively atmosphere from the early evening until late at night.
The real charm of Omoide Yokocho is the flavourful retro atmosphere and the taste of Sake drink as a conversation with the newly acquainted neighbours flourish.
