Golden Gai in Kabuki-Cho Itchome in Shinjuku is a small entertainment avenue with a long history dating back to the end of the war.
For a very long time, the area flourished as an entertainment place for cultured people to gather together, and today, it accommodates about 300 bars. Many bars still attracts arts and literature fans, as a reminiscent of past tradition when well-known authors gathered.
Golden Gai retains quality that fills the atmosphere with retro charms, and have cosy bars with characters to host human contacts as people meet. The first-time visitors may feel unapproachable, but there are more contemporary style bars being opened in the area.
